Agricultural Insurance a National Step, Calls for Urgent Insurance Sector Support

Chairman of the Palestinian Insurance Federation, Anwar Al-Shanti, said agricultural insurance is a vital national step to protect Palestinian land and farmers amid ongoing challenges.

He stressed that agricultural insurance is among the riskiest types globally, requiring strong legal, technical, and scientific support to succeed.

Al-Shanti pointed to key obstacles facing the sector, including high unemployment, citizens’ limited ability to pay premiums, weak law enforcement, costly services, and strained ties with global reinsurers. He warned that outstanding dues have reached three times the capital of insurance companies, threatening sector stability.

Despite challenges, Al-Shanti noted Palestine’s insurance penetration rate is among the best in the Arab world, with over 1,800 employees, 189 branches, and annual payouts exceeding $250 million.

He affirmed that insurance companies remain essential to protecting lives and property and supporting the national economy.
