Mr. Hamza Shrouf, Chairman of the Palestinian Insurance Federation, stated that the insurance sector is the most affected by the level of traffic awareness among citizens, emphasizing the need to enhance traffic culture in order to protect lives, promote civil peace, and curb the financial drain caused by road accidents.
His remarks came during a speech delivered at the launch event of Arab Traffic Week, held on Sunday at the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation, with the attendance of officials and community representatives.
Shrouf added, “The insurance sector is working alongside its partners to raise traffic awareness to safeguard the lives and property of citizens and to reduce the emotional and financial toll caused by violations of traffic laws and regulations.”
He noted that insurance companies allocate approximately 87% of their written premiums in the motor insurance segment to cover material and bodily compensation resulting from traffic accidents, with total claims exceeding $230 million in 2024.
Shrouf praised the Palestinian traffic police for their significant efforts amid the exceptional circumstances facing the Palestinian people—particularly in enforcing the law and addressing negative phenomena such as unlicensed vehicles and staged accidents, which in turn support civil peace and economic stability.
He reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Palestinian police, the Ministry of Transport, and all relevant stakeholders to enhance traffic awareness and contribute to the development of policies and legislation that safeguard rights and ensure the effective enforcement of the law.
