87% of vehicle insurance premiums go toward compensations – Al-Shurouf: The insurance sector is the most affected by citizens' traffic awareness.

The Chairman of the Palestinian Insurance Federation, Hamzeh Shurouf, stated that the insurance sector is the most affected by citizens’ awareness of traffic safety. He emphasized the need to enhance traffic culture to protect lives, reinforce civil peace, and stop the financial drain caused by traffic accidents.

This came during a speech delivered by Shurouf at the launch of Arab Traffic Week, held on Sunday at the headquarters of the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation, with the participation of both official and community representatives.

He added:
"The insurance sector is working with partners to increase traffic awareness in order to protect citizens’ lives and property, and to reduce the emotional and financial losses resulting from violations of laws and regulations."

Shurouf pointed out that insurance companies allocate approximately 87% of their collected premiums for motor vehicle insurance as compensation for bodily and material damages resulting from traffic accidents, which exceeded $230 million in 2024.

He also commended the Palestinian traffic police for their significant efforts amid the exceptional circumstances faced by the Palestinian people—especially in enforcing the law and addressing negative phenomena such as unlicensed vehicles and staged accidents—which contributes to civil peace and economic stability.

Shurouf affirmed the Union’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Palestinian police, the Ministry of Transport, and all relevant stakeholders to enhance traffic awareness and help establish policies and legislation that protect rights and ensure the rule of law.
